Would you like to disconnect from the real world? Would you like to escape from technology for a few hours? Would you like to have an accumulation of zen moments? Would you like to experience weightlessness? Would you like to see a different side of life?
If you’ve answered one or more of the above questions with a “yes” then we have a perfect adventure, one that takes you away from the sun and sand right into the deep blue Arabian Sea. Take a plunge into another world where you are truly a tourist.
Goa has what one would call “hidden gems” and a few of these secrets lie beneath the sea. Here’s an opportunity to explore Goan aquatic life, coral reefs, and sunken ships around Grand Island, one of India’s top dive sites. One can get to see Murray eels, snappers, groupers, and a variety of brightly coloured fish that have made the wrecks and the coral reefs their home. Some of the wrecks date back to the late 18th century.
Ilha (ill-ya) Grande as it was known in Portuguese simply means “Grand Island” is famous for its dive spot. Surrounded by coral reefs, it is also great for snorkeling. Just behind Grand Island is Ilha de Sant Jorge or St. George Island in English which looks like it is a part of Grand Island but it is a separate island.
Just behind Grand Island and Saint George Island is another island called Pequeno (Pick-en) which means “small” in Portuguese. However, it is better known as “Bat Island”. The western part of the island is less rocky than the entrance. One can see a dilapidated jetty on the east side of the island.
There’s a small 20-meter beach in the northern part where the boats usually anchor. It is believed that there was a spring on this island where boats would stop to get fresh water.
The waters surrounding these islands are clear from October to May.
Your day will begin with a pick up from your hotel in North Goa at 8 a.m. where you will proceed to the jetty and board the boat. What follows is a fun ride across the Arabian Sea towards Grand Island in the South. The island is just off the Marmagoa Harbour.
As you sail along you will get to see dolphins frolicking about in their natural habitat. They travel in pods which means you will see a minimum of seven. If the tide is coming in you will get to see them breaching. The boat will be switched off so you can enjoy watching them swim around. Keep your cameras ready because these would be moments you would want to capture.
Once you reach Grand Island your diving instructor will help you get your dive equipment ready before you take a plunge into another dimension. For your own safety purposes, kindly follow all the instructions before diving. You will be accompanied by a PADI Padi Scuba diver (The Instructor).
If you’re a beginner and you would like to experience Scuba diving in Goa then we have a Diving training session in confined water (swimming pool) which is inclusive in the payment. There will be a pre-dive briefing on the boat. Diving equipment will be provided to you. You will also be given life jackets to wear on the boat for added safety.
As an advanced diver, you could request for a dive deeper than 12 meters depending on your certification and availability.
The duration of the dive is 10-15 minutes with a proper time watch.
Visibility can be anything from 2m-20 meters but don’t worry, there will always be a lot to see in the underwater world & explore marine life. Keep an eye out for barracudas (no they are not vicious), Murray eels, cuttlefish (rare but have been sighted), groupers, snappers, Hawksbill sea turtles (again rare but have been sighted), and the reef fish which one can see swimming around. Beautiful corals lace the ocean bed. There are no sharks in Goan waters and if there are they are extremely rare.
Your day will end with a boat ride back from Grand Island where you might get to see dolphins again. The trawlers head back to port around that time and there are usually dolphins swimming in the area in hopes of an easy meal. You will also see seagulls flying around and occasionally swooping in for a beak-full of fish. The white-bellied sea eagle is also a common sight.
Your day ends at 4:00 p.m. with a drop back to your hotel.

Carry a cap or a sunhat along to protect your head from the heat. Wear your swimsuit because there will not be a changing room on the boat.
